Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza – Disability Rights Awareness Campaign Launched
The Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza (PKN) Consortium—led by Human Rights for Women and Girls with Disabilities in Malawi, Women’s Legal Resource Center (WOLREC), and Girls Empowerment Network (GENET)—held its inaugural project review meeting on June 18–19, 2025, at Lilongwe Capital Hotel.
This milestone gathering brought together teams from technical, programmatic, financial, and safeguarding departments to evaluate progress, share best practices, and reinforce collective accountability under the banner: “If we do well, we do well together—and if we sink, we all sink.”
The SASA! Together model was launched in seven Traditional Authorities, reaching over 14,000 people. To support grassroots engagement, 288 Community Activists and 125 local leaders were trained. Additionally, the Gender Transformative Curriculum was introduced in Balaka and Lilongwe to challenge harmful norms and promote inclusive education.
Through collaboration with the Malawi Police, the consortium developed a joint advocacy strategy addressing gender-based violence (GBV). The team also contributed to national policy by participating in consultations for the National Plan of Action and the Women’s Manifesto.
Monitoring tools were digitized using KoBo Collect, enabling real-time data tracking. A new Power BI dashboard for SASA! Together was launched, alongside the initiation of research on vulnerabilities within polygamous families and broader community risks.
The consortium reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on abuse. A unified safeguarding policy was reviewed and strengthened, with enhanced focus on survivor-centered reporting mechanisms and accountability systems.
This review marks a pivotal step toward inclusive, accountable programming that empowers women and girls with disabilities throughout Malawi.
