Projects Making Real Change in Malawi
WAG runs six projects that defend the rights of women and girls with disabilities — from ending gender-based violence to pushing for stronger disability laws across Africa.
EmpowerHer Project
WAG's flagship project on sexual and reproductive health rights. Funded by Kynnys ry, it works with women and girls with disabilities in three communities in Lilongwe.
Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza (PKN)
"Together to End Abuse." A large-scale UK-funded project tackling intimate partner violence in Lilongwe and Balaka, run with a three-organisation consortium.
African Disability Protocol (UNITE-4-ADP)
An EU-funded, three-year project pushing for the ratification and use of the African Disability Protocol in Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Mama Cash Multi-Year Grant
From 2016 to 2025, Mama Cash's long-term grant gave WAG the foundation to grow — funding advocacy, outreach, and economic empowerment across Lilongwe.
African Women Development Fund (AWDF)
From 2021 to 2023, AWDF funded WAG to strengthen the capacity of women and girls with disabilities to advocate for their rights and build economic independence.
Disability Rights Fund (DRF)
From 2022 to 2024, DRF funded WAG to advance the rights of women and girls with disabilities in Malawi — with a focus on health, justice, and access to work.
