WAG Disability Rights, together with DAPP Malawi, Sightsavers and FEDOMA, convened with the Parliamentary Committee on Social and Community Affairs to push for the urgent domestication of the African Disability Protocol (ADP) under the EU‑funded UNITE‑4‑ADP Project.

The session was more than a dialogue it was a strategic push for action. At its core were the findings of policy review led by Dr. George Kayange (Independent Policy Consultant) and Dr. Enoch Chilemba (University of Malawi), which exposed critical gaps in existing national frameworks affecting persons with disabilities.

To drive evidence-based reform, six policy briefs were formally submitted to Parliament, covering essential instruments such as the National Labour and Employment Policy and the National Social Protection Policy.

Speaking during the engagement Hon. Savel Kafwafwa, Member of Parliament for Dedza North and Chairperson of the parliamentary committee on social welfare and community services, delivered a compelling message “The Persons with Disabilities Act, 2024 was a milestone but the real test lies in whether these legal commitments translate into tangible improvements in the lives of persons with disabilities.” He went further, calling for an equity-based approach to disability inclusion one that responds to the diverse realities of persons with disabilities and ensures that no one is left behind.
