Lilongwe, Malawi 12th June 2026 The Human Rights of Women and Girls with Disabilities (WAG Disability Rights) today successfully convened a high-level quarterly board meeting at Annavilla7 Hotel in Lilongwe. The meeting brought together the organization’s Board of Directors, executive leadership and project teams to review progress, share key learnings and align on strategic priorities for the remainder of 2026.
The agenda featured presentations from several key projects, including HIVOS, PKN, U4ADP, EMPOWER-HER, IM, BFF, as well as updates from the Finance and MEL teams. Presentations highlighted successes, challenges, key lessons and forward-looking plans.
In her welcome address, Miss Stella Nkhonya, Executive Director of WAG Disability Rights, underscored the importance of close collaboration between the secretariat and the Board. “This meeting is very important. It is essential for WAG staff and its Board to remain closely in touch. I want to thank each Board member for their availability and for the important questions they have raised regarding our activities. Your engagement makes us stronger.”
The Board Chair Andikuza Makhumula delivered opening and closing remarks that energized the room. She expressed deep appreciation for the team’s dedication and used the platform to issue a powerful call to action.”This meeting gives the Board valuable insight and a great opportunity to address everything. I want to encourage WAG management and staff on the good work that is being done. Let us work together not to leave any woman or girl with disability behind.”
The meeting concluded with a joint session where all participants engaged in robust reflections and discussions, followed by closing acknowledgments from the Board Chair. The WAG staff then proceeded with their weekly internal meeting before logistical arrangements for departure.
