Community Dialogue with Traditional and Community Leaders

Today in Dowa, we held a community dialogue with traditional and community leaders in the Chivala area under our ongoing IMS Economic empowerment Initiative

The aim was to introduce our new initiative Advancing human rights, economic justice and social inclusion of women and girls with disabilities so that the local leaders should understand the initiative and are empowered to support women and girls with disabilities in their communities.

Why this matters. Community leaders are the gatekeepers of change. When they champion inclusion, service providers listen, harmful norms begin to shift, and women with disabilities gain the support they need to claim their rights. This dialogue is just the beginning of a sustained engagement to build awareness from the ground up.

What we stand for. At WAG Disability Rights, we work across Malawi to promote, protect, and respect the rights of women and girls with disabilities through evidence-based advocacy, inclusive programmes and a relentless commitment to justice.

Together, we can build a Malawi where women and girls with disabilities live free from discrimination, free from violence, and lead lives of self-respect and dignity.
