Today, the Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza (PKN) consortium comprising Women’s Legal Resources Centre – WOLREC, Girls Empowerment Network and Human Rights for Women and Girls with Disabilities in Malawi – hrwgdm held a high-level introductory meeting with the new Inspector General of Police. Our goal? To strengthen the partnership between the Malawi Police Service and the PKN project which is funded by the UK Government through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
Our Executive Director, Ms. Stella Nkhonya delivered a powerful presentation on the “Dignified Life Prevention Strategy,” highlighting the importance of prevention in ending violence against women and girls. She emphasized that creating a dignified life for all especially women and girls with disabilities requires a collective effort that begins with changing mindsets and strengthening community-based prevention mechanisms.
This engagement is a critical part of our national advocacy efforts under PKN. We are proud to announce that the Gender Transformative Curriculum (GTC) will be embedded into the police training curriculum. This integration will equip police officers with the skills to respond to cases of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) with a survivor-centered approach.
This collaboration is a major step forward in protecting the rights and safety of women and girls in Malawi. Together we are working to ensure the police are better equipped to serve and protect survivors of violence.
